The Z-5151 Series is the upgraded version of ZEBEX high-speed laser scan module A-51M. Based on the same optical structure of A-51M, the Z-5151 Series benefits from ZEBEX omnidirectional technology to combine 7 laser lines into one, reading at 500 times per second. Compared with A-51M, its advanced 32 bit MPU supports more barcode types, more interfaces options and more firmware modification possibilities

With cubic die-casting housing and two preserved back mounting holes, this powerful scanner can be easily installed into machine or rack as a module or fixed scanner. For the manufacturing industries, in particular, the Z-5151 Series is a great tool to facilitate factory automation.

The Background & Need 
In this case, for example, the user is a world-leading electronics manufacturing service (EMS) provider in Taiwan, manufacturing and assembling printed circuit boards (PCBs) of electronic products including modules, boards and systems.

After the PCB assemblies (PCBAs) are manufactured, the quality inspection personnel need to put the PCBAs into a jig for in-circuit test to check if the boards are correctly fabricated. At its production line of flat panel device control boards for one major TFT-LCD supplier, it used Z-5151 to automatically record the quality inspection result.

Originally the inspector used a handheld laser scanner to read the barcode on the control board, put the board into a jig, run the test and then the shop flow control system recorded the inspection.

The Solution
When the EMS provider turned to ZEBEX for an economic handheld scanner to cut cost, our sales representative observed their actual operation procedure and noticed that the barcode was of the same size and labeled at the same location on the PCBA. Instead of another handheld scanner, we suggested a fixed scanner would be more ideal in this situation.

The manufacturer took our advice and attached Z-5151HD to the jig. This high speed laser scanner automatically detects and decodes barcode entering its reading range. The inspectors don't have to spend time picking up a laser scanner, aiming at the barcode and pulling the trigger. They skip this step, save time and improve work efficiency.
